Tilbury Loop 12 car in service by December 2011?

National Rail have updated us on their Control Period 4 enhancement plan. They state quite specifically that construction of Tilbury Loop platform extensions will begin in December 2010, with 12 car trains running instead of 8 by December 2011.

The work may get done, but c2c may well not run longer trains anytime soon.
The platform 3 eight car extension at Grays has been ready for use since xmas, but not only have the promised timetable enhancements failed to appear, they still use platform 2 to turn round the 8 coach trains in the rush-hour, causing major inconvenience to people wanting to cross on the level-crossing in Grays High St.

Plat 3 at Grays is still not available to use - the equipment that goes with it was not installed or commissioned properly - so it is not safe to use yet. Bear in mind using plat 3 at Grays uses more time as you have to cross over to it from the Down Tilbury Line, either directly before the station or at West Thurrock Jn.

To be able to utilise the Bay platform more effectively, c2c need more stock - something they were meant to get but are now not getting! The 321's from LM - NXEA are getting some & LM are keeping the rest (storing some of them!). The 317s from NXEA have also been put on hold.

The platform extensions are currently booked to start in June 2011, and last for 3 months (every Sunday). Pitsea is more difficult & will be done by itself over a period of roughly 6 weekends.
