Unlocking Iphone 3g ... NOT with O2 !!!!
Dec 18th, 2009 at 12:51am

As of Nov this year, O2 pay and go customers are in-titled to have there phones unlocked. My phone is 15 months old, so an unlock i can get... in theory . I applied for my unlock 2 weeks ago, in the mean time i updated to 3.1.2 software via itunes. This update made my phone have no wifi and no working bluetooth. I Visited O2 shops with this problem, they suggested to go to apple directly, which i did.

I took to apple Store in Belfast, on Wednesday, spoke to the genesis bar guys, i told them my story, they tested the phone, I was advised by by genesis guy ( Mark- R313 )that is was most likely
a hardware issue, i stated that i thought it was a software issue, and that my phone was working fine until the new update was installed. He advised me that it would cost me 139 pounds for a replacement handset.
I advised him that i was upset that i had to pay this, but as i wanted my wifi working, and that i traveled a lot, i would take the apple offer. I remained polite and calm at all times.

Once the new( replacement handset) was set up, he surprised me by saying as there was no way to be sure it was not a hardware or software issue, that he would give me the replacement one free !!!!!
I was very taken back and naturally surprised. My phone was out of warranty, the genesis guy did not have to do this. THIS is unbelievable customer service, i was made so happy. They gave me paperwork so that if i had any issues with O2, as i had explained that i had applied for my unlock and i didn't want any probs with O2 regarding this, and this is exactly what has happened. Now as  i have a "replacement phone", the imei number is different to what my initial phone was, i called O2 CService, they are saying i have to wait another 12 months.... because its a differnt emei number,I got a SMS message from O2 today that my unlock application was unsuccessful ..... because i have a different IMEI number to which i started with.
It is not my fault that was phone was faulty, nor that Apple gave me a Replacement one. When i telephoned cust. Service ( O2) today, the guy i spoke with was very unhelpful and rude.

This is not how i expect to be treated. Apple did not treat me like this and i expect a better level of service from O2. I simple want my Iphone unlocked so i can use when overseas
Can anyone help

I can't understand why they didn't put a request in , to unlock your iphone .

You do not have to be with o2 for any set amount of time , when using a prepay iphone .

(my firs post doesnt allow me to post a link ) its the o2 website /unlatchmyiphone

Aboves a link for a form you can fill out to get the iphone unlatched , please be aware that if you do this , while th handset is still covered under the warenty , it then becomes void o.o ,

Also there is a £15.00 charge, this is a charge levied by the manufacturer, which is passed on to the customer, usually via your prepay balance .

Anyways good luck ,
