Chafford Hundred - More piecemeal improvements
Jun 17th, 2010 at 12:12pm

Network Rail and c2c have applied for planning permission to 'remodel' and 'improve' Chafford Hundred station. Seriously, how many times have they done this now?

They propose a tiny shelter above the single double doors leading to the platform, widening a section of platform that is only used in peak time, and new ticket office desks. Minor addons include an ATM, info point.

So again, nothing to solve the congestion issues this station still has at peak times. When they built it in 1993 I doubt they expected about 6000 entries and exits daily.

Perhaps this is an acceptance that in the current political climate significant improvements - such as a second platform and track - are a very long way off.

If you are concerned about CH, the refranchising consultation process is an ideal time to make a point about the inadequacies along the line. The ConDems have just stopped the current process are going to relaunch in a few months. A 10 year plus franchise is going to be offered, but the last attempt wanted next to nothing back from the franchisee, we should be pushing for line speed improvements & another passing loop on the Ockendon branch at the Upminster end. Plus more rolling stock. We already have the pervse situation that the platforms extensions are due to be built over the next couple of years, but no one has any idea if/when/where the rolling stock these longer platforms is coming from!
